Rarity needs a reason
The official experience confirms rare cosmetics and unique-infected drops, but it does not publish a universal rarity table or drop percentages. A cosmetic may be rare because its event ended, its source is uncommon, the game labels it, it was paid, or players observe it infrequently. State which basis applies.
Do not rank rarity from appearance or an old video title. Major community catalogs can be explicitly outdated.
Evidence and status card
Unique-infected cosmetics
The official experience says unique infected can drop rare cosmetics and that quiet melee increases loot chance. It gives no numeric bonus and does not make the item guaranteed. Identify the infected, map, landmark, event state, kill method, and exact result.
Use melee only when the target is isolated and the approach is safe. A failed quiet attempt can cost more than the possible reward. Record ordinary outcomes as well as successes and never derive a precise rate from a small sample.

Event and legacy cosmetics
Official updates add time-limited wearables. The anniversary update, for example, lists limited AR vest and Trinity-themed cosmetics. This confirms event existence and addition, while exact objectives and current availability need the live tracker. Soviet, Drying, winter, and other seasonal items belong to their own dated windows.
After an event ends, change the acquisition status to expired unless a new official or live source confirms return. Players wearing the item show that ownership persists, not that the route reopened.
Legacy status is useful history, not a promise. Do not invent a future return date.
Location-based cosmetics
Keep Beta, Reimagined, and seasonal routes separate. Record landmark, room or source family, approach, event state, and check date. If the route comes from a video, match structural landmarks in the current map before risking gear.
One ground find or container opening proves possibility only. Another player may have taken the item. Use Cosmetic Locations for map-specific checking.
Safe collection run
Confirm current availability before departure. Carry food, hydration, healing, supported ammunition, and empty space. Observe the source area, choose an exit, and avoid opening inventory in a doorway. If the item appears, take it and leave instead of extending the route through more contested locations.
Stop when supplies decline or the route becomes watched. A rare cosmetic is not worth losing a stable character to a stale claim.
For group runs, share the objective and acquisition rule before contact. Do not assume every item can be transferred or earned simultaneously; verify the current system.
Paid and store rarity
A paid pack can be limited without being a drop. Read the official product panel for name, contents, current price, applicable weapons or slots, and availability. Never treat cost as proof of gameplay advantage or an objective rarity tier.
Preserve receipts privately and avoid third-party sellers, account sharing, or off-platform logins.
Build a trustworthy entry
Record exact item, category/slot, rarity basis, source, infected/container/event link, map, paid/free state, availability, evidence, check date, and notes. Unknown values remain blank. Recheck after map, cosmetic, infected, event, or store updates.
Verification status
Rare cosmetics, unique-infected drops, and quiet-melee advantage are official. Individual names, locations, drop pools, objective steps, prices, and availability rely on dated official additions and current observations. No probability or guaranteed route is claimed. Decide when to stop farming
Set a supply and time limit before starting. Stop when food, hydration, healing, or supported ammunition falls below the return requirement; when the route becomes watched; when the event state is uncertain; or when repeated checks no longer produce new evidence. Record unsuccessful observations instead of extending the run until a success creates a misleading story. A rare-item route should remain sustainable across many lives, and preserving the character can be more valuable than another unverified attempt.
