A list needs status, not just names
The official experience advertises more than 1,000 cosmetics. A useful catalog cannot safely claim completeness from an old community table—especially when a major community cosmetic page describes itself as heavily outdated. Record exact live name, broad type, source, map/event scope, paid/free state, availability, evidence, and last checked date.
Unknown source or status should remain blank. A polished but copied list can send players toward removed locations for hours.
Collection lookup
Weapon appearances belong in Weapon Skins so they do not mix with character wearables.
Define rarity
“Rare” can mean a game-applied tag, low observed frequency, difficult unique-infected source, limited event window, paid pack, or legacy item. State the basis. Appearance, military style, or popularity is not proof.
Use evidence labels: officially announced, live observed, current community report, historical community report, or unverified after update. Never assign an exact drop probability without a transparent repeated method.

Record an item
Capture exact spelling from the character or inventory interface. Record category/slot, visible variant, source type, map, landmark or infected link, event name, paid/free state, availability, date, and evidence. If the source was a container, note its family rather than promising the same item.
One find establishes possibility in that context. An item worn by another player establishes ownership, not current acquisition. A historical changelog establishes introduction, not permanent availability.
Keep Beta and Reimagined records separate even if the item name matches.
Availability states
Current means a reproducible live source. Event-limited means the official event is active. Expired means its acquisition window ended. Legacy preserves history without a supported route. Paid describes purchase source, not permanence. Unverified after update means the last route predates a major change. Returned requires a newer official or live confirmation.
This status system supports a current-only view while keeping collection history intact.
Equip and confirm
Use the current Character interface. Confirm the item appears in the expected category, saves correctly, and does not conflict with another slot. Community claims about slot counts can become stale, so the live interface is final.
If an item is missing, verify acquisition completion, current save/mode, and event context. Free Roam uses a save separate from the main game according to official notes, so do not assume all progress crosses between modes.
Find cosmetics safely
Use Cosmetic Locations for routes, Rare Infected Drops for entity evidence, and Events for windows. Observe locations before entering because rare routes attract players. Preserve empty inventory space and leave after a successful find.
Do not use glitches, scripts, downloads, or account-sharing services. A cosmetic is not worth account or fair-play risk.
Maintain the catalog
Recheck after map, cosmetic, infected, event, store, or character-interface updates. Preserve older evidence with dates. If sources disagree, do not choose the exciting version; mark status uncertain and test in the current client.
Verification status
The 1,000+ scope and broad cosmetic system are official. Official changelogs establish many dated additions. Community lists help discover names but can be outdated. Complete roster, slots, rarity tags, locations, prices, pools, and current availability require live checks. Last reviewed September 18, 2026.
Duplicate and variant handling
Do not create separate records merely because lighting, a screenshot, or an abbreviated community name looks different. Compare exact live spelling, slot, color or pattern variant, source, and equip preview. If the interface treats two appearances as variants, keep them under one parent item with distinct variant fields. If it gives different names or acquisition routes, preserve separate records. This prevents cosmetic totals from being inflated and lets collectors see whether they need a new source or only a different appearance option.
