Start with role, not rarity

The official experience advertises more than 100 firearms and melee weapons. That variety makes a single universal tier list less useful than a role-based choice. A gun is valuable when you can feed it, control it, carry it, and use it at the ranges your route creates. A rare weapon with one partial magazine can be a worse survival tool than a common firearm backed by matching ammunition.

This hub separates stable identity fields—class, ammunition family, attachment type, and source category—from changing values such as damage, recoil, capacity, spawn, and availability. Exact numerical stats are intentionally absent unless a current interface or repeatable test supports them.

Weapon-class lookup

Handguns are compact backup weapons and early-life options. Judge one by accessible ammunition, reload support, and whether it frees space for a longer primary. Submachine guns emphasize close-range volume and control, but ammunition consumption matters. Rifles and carbines cover broad general-purpose roles with different cartridge and handling tradeoffs. Shotguns reward close-range planning and careful shell management. Precision rifles need sightlines, positioning, and an exit plan. Machine guns can offer sustained fire at the cost of weight, scarcity, or handling. Melee weapons conserve ammunition and reduce noise when the engagement is safe.

These are practical categories, not promises about current balance. A particular weapon can blur the boundary, and an update can change behavior without changing its name.

A five-question pickup test

Before replacing your current weapon, ask:

  1. Do I have the correct ammunition and a working way to load it?
  2. Does the weapon solve the range I expect on my next route?
  3. Can I control its sights and fire mode under pressure?
  4. Does it accept the attachment I plan to keep?
  5. Is the extra rarity worth losing inventory space, reserves, or a dependable backup?

If three answers are uncertain, keep the known weapon until you can test the new one safely. Clear a quiet room, check fire mode and loaded state, then verify attachments. Do not fire a “test shot” in a populated area without considering who will hear it.

Ammo is part of the weapon

Community references group ammunition into familiar families including .45 ACP, 9mm variants, .357, .44, 12 gauge, 5.56 NATO, 5.45 Soviet, 7.62 Soviet, 7.62 NATO, 7.62 Rimmed, .30-06, and .30 Carbine, plus rarer special cartridges. Compatibility must be confirmed in the current item interface because similar names do not make ammunition interchangeable.

The August 2026 official update changed ammunition handling: transfers became instant, players gained Spread Ammo and Unload Ammo actions, internal-magazine workflows were improved, and old loading tools were removed. That makes older inventory tutorials particularly risky. The Ammo Guide explains the current decision flow without preserving obsolete tool instructions.

Carry reserves for the fights you actually intend to take. Too many partial stacks consume the space needed for healing, food, vehicle parts, or a second useful magazine. Consolidate only when the live interface shows the action you expect.

Attachments should fix a problem

Optics change the sight picture and usable target identification. Barrel devices can affect sound signature or handling. Underbarrel accessories may support control, illumination, or aiming. The exact effect and compatible host depend on the item and current build, so a category name alone is not enough.

The official Beta release added three attachments, and the experience description confirms attachments as part of the loot system. For each attachment, record its slot, compatible weapon shown by the current interface, effect text, map or source scope, and check date. Do not force an attachment onto a weapon simply because a community table once paired them.

Special does not mean always obtainable

Special weapons may come from a limited event, unique infected, rare container, random event, or named update. Availability can move from current to expired, legacy, or returned. The August 2026 Soviet Takeover, for example, introduced a limited AN-94 during a dated event window; that confirms historical availability, not a permanent current spawn.

Use status labels such as current, event-limited, expired, legacy, and unverified after update. Keep the source type separate from a precise location. A reliable catalog can say “event source confirmed” even when a spawn route needs another live check.

How to compare “best” guns

Define the test before naming a winner. For early survival, score ammunition access, controllability, compact storage, and replacement cost. For close PvP, test target visibility, recovery, reload exposure, and movement constraints. For longer sightlines, examine usable optic, follow-up shots, concealment, and the cover available on the route. For infected clearing, include sound and ammunition efficiency.

Damage alone cannot capture those decisions, and unrecorded test conditions create false precision. The Best Guns guide provides a scorecard rather than a permanent ranking. Recheck after weapon, recoil, attachment, or ammunition updates.

Maintain a trustworthy Weapons Dex

For each record, keep name, class, ammunition, feed type, fire modes shown in game, attachment slots, inventory size, source type, availability, map/event scope, and last checked date. Leave a field blank when it is unknown. Damage, recoil, velocity, capacity, and spawn claims need either current UI evidence or a repeatable test with the build and conditions recorded.

Cross-link sources instead of copying data into unrelated pages. Locations belong in Map, temporary sources in Events, unique-infected drops in Infected, and storage decisions in Items. That keeps one update from leaving several contradictory tables.

Sources and freshness

Weapon count and system existence come from the official Roblox description. Attachment additions and ammunition workflow changes come from official Beta changelog entries. Community weapon and ammunition catalogs help discover names and categories but can lag the live build. Exact stats, compatibility, spawns, and ranking claims remain in-game verification tasks.
