Vehicles trade concealment for reach

The official experience confirms repairable cars and boats. They shorten long routes, carry supplies, move groups, and open water approaches, but engines, horns, lights, and predictable roads make them easy to notice. A vehicle is not automatically an upgrade: it must have the right components, enough fuel for the plan, a safe route, and a destination where you can leave without being trapped.

Use this Vehicles Dex to separate stable roles from build-sensitive stats. Exact speed, seats, storage, durability, repair amount, and spawn behavior require the current interface or controlled tests. A community vehicle table is a starting point, not permission to copy old numbers.

Decide whether to take it

Observe before approaching. A parked vehicle may belong to another player, may be bait, or may be missing a part that forces a long exposed repair. Check nearby windows, ridges, tree lines, and exits. If doors are open or loose parts are staged around it, assume someone has interacted with it recently.

Then answer four questions. Does it support the next route? Can you start and control it? Can you repair or fuel the critical systems without emptying your survival kit? Is there a safe place to stop at the destination? If any answer is no, mark the location mentally and continue on foot.

For group travel, agree who drives, who navigates, and who watches during stops. Inventory sorting should happen before the engine starts or after the vehicle is concealed, not while blocking a road.

Land and water roles

Land vehicles use road networks and can cross distance quickly, but chokepoints, bridges, damaged tires, and dense settlements limit escape. Smaller vehicles may turn or hide more easily; larger vehicles may support more seats or storage, but exact characteristics vary by model and build.

Boats create shoreline routes and can bypass some road ambushes. They also expose occupants over open water and require a usable landing point. Before committing, identify at least two shores where you can disembark. A perfect water route becomes a trap when the destination has no cover or the boat cannot be recovered.

Event vehicles belong in a separate availability state. Official updates have added vehicles during major releases and limited events. Historical confirmation does not prove a current normal-world spawn.

Repair priorities

Inspect the vehicle through the current interaction interface. Community guides commonly separate engine, body, tires, fuel tank, glass, and fuel, but the exact labels and repair mechanics should be read live. Prioritize the component that prevents basic movement or immediate survival. An engine that cannot run or a missing critical tire matters before cosmetic damage; fuel range matters before a long departure.

The official February 20, 2026 update describes current hull protection behavior: the vehicle body shields occupants while hull health remains above 25 percent. Below that point, occupants begin taking a portion of base damage that scales upward as the hull approaches zero. Treat the live condition display as final and avoid using a critically damaged body as dependable cover.

Use the Vehicle Repair guide for a staged process: secure, inspect, restore movement, restore protection, fuel, test, and leave. Repair-kit amounts and tool bonuses remain version-sensitive.

Search for vehicles efficiently

Use search zones rather than guaranteed pins. Road edges, settlements, industrial areas, service spaces, marinas, docks, shorelines, and current event sites are sensible categories. Enter a zone from a position where you can observe it. If the expected space is empty, another player may have taken the vehicle, the server may not have spawned one, or the map source may be stale.

Never turn a few sightings into a percentage. Record map, server time, exact landmark, condition, missing components, fuel state, and event state. Multiple independent observations are needed before describing a pattern. The Vehicle Locations guide provides a lookup structure for doing that honestly.

Drive without donating the vehicle

Plan turns and exits before accelerating. Avoid stopping directly in front of entrances, on bridges, or in the center of a town. Park facing the departure route. Leave enough distance that infected or gunfire around the destination does not immediately surround the vehicle.

Speed is not always safety. Engines announce your approach, and a straight road creates predictable movement. Slow before blind corners, avoid cresting exposed ridges unnecessarily, and do not pursue another vehicle beyond your fuel and repair plan. If contact occurs, decide whether the vehicle is transport, cover, or something to abandon; trying to preserve it at all costs can lose the character.

The August 2026 update added storage quick-transfer behavior and vehicle handbrake work. Verify the current control prompt on your platform before relying on it in a chase.

Vehicle inventory decisions

Store route-specific bulk that you can afford to lose: spare fuel or components, group supplies, and compatible ammunition. Keep immediate healing and an escape weapon on the character. If all essentials are in the trunk, separation from the vehicle turns a mobility problem into a survival emergency.

Before leaving a vehicle, take the item needed for the next foot segment and note its orientation. Before swapping vehicles, compare repair state, fuel, seats, storage, and terrain role. A rarer model is not better when it lacks parts or cannot reach the planned coast.

Dex fields and verification

For each model record name, land/water type, observed seats, observed storage, required components, current condition, repair-kit type, fuel, source area, map scope, event state, current/expired/legacy status, and last checked date. Speed, durability, penetration, exact repair amounts, and spawn rates need a documented test.

Link map claims to Map, supplies to Items, and limited vehicles to Events. Unknown fields stay blank rather than borrowing a number from an old Alpha or AR1 page.

Sources and freshness

Repairable cars, boats, and vehicle parts are confirmed by the official experience. Official changelogs confirm additions, 2026 hull-protection behavior, and later controls/storage changes. Community vehicle pages supply working names and search roles but can lag balance and maps. Exact stats and spawns remain live-game checks. Last reviewed September 18, 2026.
