Best Guns in Apocalypse Rising 2

Choose the best Apocalypse Rising 2 gun for early survival, close PvP, open terrain, infected, and scarce ammo using a transparent scorecard.

There is no context-free best gun

A useful “best” answer must state the job, map, range, ammunition support, attachment setup, platform, and build date. Community discussions continue to disagree because players optimize for different conditions. A rare rifle may dominate one prepared open-terrain test while being a poor first-life choice with no spare ammunition.

This guide avoids a fixed tier list until repeatable current testing supports it. It gives you a scorecard for selecting the best weapon in your inventory now.

Role scorecard

Early survivalAmmo access, simple sights, manageable storage, dependable reload, and replaceability.
Close PvPFast sight acquisition, controllability, movement, reload exposure, and supported reserves.
Open terrainTarget identification, usable optic, follow-up control, concealment, and cover availability.
Infected clearingNoise, ammunition efficiency, handling around groups, and a safe melee alternative.
Group supportShared ammo logistics, complementary ranges, sustained use, and role clarity.
Event or rareCurrent availability, replacement risk, special source, and whether it solves the mission.

Score only what you can observe. Do not insert damage or recoil numbers copied from an undated table.

Early-life choice

Prefer a weapon with ammunition already available or reasonably searchable on the route. Confirm loaded state and a sight picture you understand. Compact storage and a reliable backup matter because early inventory is limited. A common weapon with two supported reloads often provides more practical security than a special weapon with one incomplete feed.

Avoid reorganizing the entire route around a rare find. Stabilize food, hydration, healing, and storage first. If the weapon draws you toward a crowded ammo source, include that risk in its score.

PvP choice

Match sightline and cover. In buildings, target acquisition and movement can matter more than theoretical range. Across roads, fields, or coast, a clearer optic and controlled follow-up can matter more than raw rate. Your platform and settings affect control, so a community favorite may not fit your input.

Test with the same range, stance, sight, attachment, ammunition, and target procedure. Record missed shots and recovery, not only a best burst. Practice breaking sight and reloading from cover. The PvP Guide explains the full engagement loop.

Infected and stealth choice

For isolated infected, a quiet melee option can preserve ammunition and attention when safe. The official experience says quiet melee can increase loot chance from unique infected, but no percentage is provided. For multiple threats or an unsafe approach, survival takes priority over silence.

A firearm chosen for infected should use ammunition you can spare and remain controllable under pressure. Gunfire can attract players, so include the cost of revealing position. “Fastest kill” is not always the best survival outcome.

Test method

  1. Record date, map, platform, weapon, ammo, sight, attachments, and fire mode.
  2. Choose a controlled distance and target procedure.
  3. Run multiple attempts without changing other settings.
  4. Record acquisition, control, reload exposure, reserve consumption, and errors.
  5. Repeat on the route type you actually play.
  6. Mark results as personal, group, or controlled-mode evidence—not universal fact.

Free Roam can support controlled practice because its save is officially separate and hosts have configuration options. Confirm current settings and ensure they resemble the public scenario being discussed.

Availability changes the answer

An event weapon can be effective while being unavailable to a new player. An ordinary weapon can be replaced after death and resupplied along common routes. Rate current, event-limited, expired, legacy, and unverified availability separately from performance.

The Soviet Takeover’s AN-94 is an example of a weapon introduced in a dated limited window. Its historical addition does not establish current acquisition. Use Special Weapons for source status.

Common ranking failures

  • No build date or test conditions.
  • One player’s preference presented as objective damage truth.
  • Rare availability treated as higher performance.
  • Attachments omitted from the comparison.
  • Ammunition and inventory cost ignored.
  • Controlled-mode results presented as public-server outcomes.
  • Old Alpha or event data mixed with the current Beta build.

Practical answer

The best gun is the one that covers the next likely range, uses ammunition you can sustain, presents a sight you can read, remains controllable on your platform, and leaves enough inventory for survival. Keep a backup plan when its source is rare. Re-score after an update or route change rather than defending a permanent tier.

Verification status

Weapon quantity and broad systems are official; role comparisons reflect repeatable survival decisions and current community questions. Exact rankings, damage, recoil, sound distance, and acquisition need current controlled testing. No fixed statistical winner is claimed. Last reviewed September 18, 2026.
